Module 2 · Cleaning the Wound

Facing the Death

Something has died. The marriage you thought you had. The version of him you trusted. The version of yourself who didn't know yet. Before resurrection, there must be burial. Before healing, there must be the honest naming of what is gone.

Psalm 55:12–14

For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it… but it was thou, a man mine equal, my guide, and mine acquaintance. We took sweet counsel together, and walked unto the house of God in company.

Read Psalm 55 slowly, all the way through. Read it again. David is not polite about his pain. You do not have to be either.

HOMEWORK

Make a list of the dreams you had for your marriage and your future. Don't hold back. Big dreams, small dreams, ordinary Tuesday dreams.

Which of these dreams have died? Which ones are wounded but still breathing?

Write a letter to the woman you were before you knew. Tell her what you wish someone had told you.

Psalm 34:18

The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
