Coming Home to God's Word
Sister, much of what we believe about God we have inherited — from our mothers, our pastors, the women at the table behind us in church. Some of it is gold. Some of it is grief dressed up in scripture. The only way to know the difference is to come home to the Word ourselves.
There is a difference between knowing about God and knowing God. One is borrowed. The other is built — verse by verse, morning by morning, in your own kitchen, at your own table, in your own voice.
Be honest with yourself here. Where does your knowledge of God really come from?
Which scriptures are calling to your spirit right now?
HOMEWORK
Share the scriptures that are calling to you with your group, or with one trusted sister. Write them on a card and place them somewhere you'll see them every day — the bathroom mirror, the fridge, the dashboard of your car.
Commit, for the next week, to twenty minutes of scripture reading each day. Not a podcast about scripture. Not a devotional about scripture. Scripture itself. Pen in hand. Coffee, tea, or quiet beside you.
When and where will your twenty minutes happen each day this week?
